i can hardly believe that i´ve been on this farm for nearly 4 weeks now.
kara joined me on thursday, and it´s been nothing but lovely having her here.
we plan to leave on sunday or monday and wwoof on a near-by farm for the following week.
talks of morocco are brewing. [!!!]
after that we would love to travel up spain and see madrid and barcelona.
we may even spend a few days in italy.
i hear they have excellent hot chocolate.
the last week has mostly consisted of weaving the bamboo roof [seen above courtesy of karajerdenphotographyorsomethinglikethat].
the first few days were what lizzie referred to as "fiddley," and at a few points i considered throwing myself off of the roof in order to do anything other than weave.
yes, even a broken neck looked appealing at one point in my life.
in retrospect, i´m glad that i resisted, even though i am interested in the quality of free health care.
it seems everything is better in europe-- even their almonds, which i am now capable of preparing in about 204 different ways. my favorite is tossed in a little bit of olive oil and sea salt and heated over the stove for about 5-10 minutes.
the house is still very primitive. actually, it´s still very, very primitive, but the addition of a psuedo-roof is encouraging.
at this rate, only five more years of free labor and lizzie will have herself her own little casa.
it´s funny how easily you adapt to your surroundings. kara and i have started noticing little things, especially in speech. whenever anyone is affirming something, they always say "sí, sí, sí, sí", give or take a few "sí´s". we find ourselves constantly replying, "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
put us anywhere in the States and we sound rude and impatient. here, and we sound just like those around us.
it´s strange, too, being around so many brits all the time. some times i feel just as unfluent in my English english as i do in my spanish.
just in case you´re wondering
biscuits are cookies
trousers are pants
jumpers are sweaters
torches are flashlights
tea is something that you drink whenever you´re sedentary
brushes are brooms
and no one says thank you. it´s "cheers" all the way around.
can i just say that i really hate finishing blog posts?
i just never know what to say.
okaybye.
